Welcome to Put it Out Rockland County

Welcome to Put it Out Rockland.
This is the Rockland County Department of Health's tobacco prevention resource site. The Department of Health is committed to reducing the impact of tobacco use in our county because tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of disease and death in the country.
Our mission is simple and powerful: To provide a comprehensive tobacco prevention, education, and cessation program to the people who live, work or attend school in Rockland County .

PIOR has already helped over 1,500 Rockland residents quit.

We offer programs that help to reduce tobacco use rates among youth, promote quitting among adults and youth and reduce exposure to secondhand smoke.
Our services include quit smoking programs, public service media campaigns, a youth empowerment initiative and campaigns to increase awareness about the dangers of secondhand smoke.
Put It Out Rockland is an advisory board member of the POW'R To Be Tobacco Free Cessation Center and POW'R Against Tobacco Community Partnership, which serves Putnam, Orange, Westchester and Rockland Counties.
If you or someone you love is ready to quit smoking or needs information about tobacco related resources we're here to help.
Please take the time to browse this site and learn more about the effects of tobacco use, the benefits of quitting, how our proven quit smoking programs work and much more.

We're well on our way to a smoke-free Rockland County.

  • Rockland County has one of the lowest adult smoking rates in the state, if not the nation.
  • Rockland County adult smoking rate has declined from 15% in 2003 to the current 9.5% (2008 Community Survey). This rate surpasses the 12% adult smoking rate goal of "Healthy People 2010"!
